I really enjoy the book, my principal objective was to read a good novel, and this book exceeded my expectations, I’m impact that this book was written more than 100 years ago and touched a topic that I’m recently reading and listening in the modern days that is the importance of your thoughts , and how your life could change if you learn how to choose positive thoughts than bad and harmful ones

Bueno 3/5, me leí este libro en una versión reducida en inglés。 Esta bueno peor no es el tipo de cuento que me gusta。 Muchas partes yo pensé "shut up mary" y en otras era "you're a little bit like me"。 Bueno 3/5, me leí este libro en una versión reducida en inglés。 Esta bueno peor no es el tipo de cuento que me gusta。 Muchas partes yo pensé "shut up mary" y en otras era "you're a little bit like me"。 。。。more

One of the best! I loved this book as a child and I have recently read it again as an adult, loved it just the same。 A beautiful, sweet, timeless story。

Very much a product of its time and the start of book is grating with racial issues and Mary is such an easy character to hate but it is beautifully written and I found myself laughing and smiling more and more as I read on。

The book conveys an important message, but I found the pacing a bit slow。 I also really didn't enjoy reading the Yorkshire dialect。 Definitely not as good as A Little Princess IMO (which I loved)。 The book conveys an important message, but I found the pacing a bit slow。 I also really didn't enjoy reading the Yorkshire dialect。 Definitely not as good as A Little Princess IMO (which I loved)。 。。。more

4。5stars。 Secret garden is sucha feel good book! Extremely heart warming and delightful。 Highly uplifting! The innocence of childhood and the mystical, magical atmosphere created was soo well explored。 Commendable。 To be honest I didnt find the plot quite interesting towards the end, initially the book was certainly captivating but later it was very predictable I believe。 However the best part was I felt like I was 10 again! It was a great feeling!! All in all it was a delightful experience。 Onl 4。5stars。 Secret garden is sucha feel good book! Extremely heart warming and delightful。 Highly uplifting! There were parts that were enjoyable and atmospheric that I could almost imagine the beautiful garden which was poignantly described by the author。 However, the racism in the book has constantly bugged me, and in the middle I just got bored。 Towards the ending, it has picked up its pace however I am less interested and was relieved to have already finished it。

I've watched several versions of the movie and also the Broadway production, but this was the first time I've actually read The Secret Garden。 To be honest, it was a little dry but I still love the story。 The author used passive voice a lot more than I think is necessary in a children's book。 My 8 year old enjoyed the story and my 6 year old listened when it was convenient for her, but they were rarely begging to read more。 Perhaps that's why it took us a month and a half to finish! This was such a charming children’s classic。 I loved how the children learned the beauty and importance of good food, time in nature, and laughter。 I found some of the characters to be really dated but otherwise enjoyed listening to this so much (especially the narrators Yorkshire accents)。 It’s a true reminder of how beautiful the simple life is。

This was a cute tale about the growth of two children and a garden。 When we first meet Mary and then Colin, they are both emotionally neglected by the adults around them, and so they are spoiled and unloving。 Mary initially lives in India with her parents, but she is sent to England to live with her Uncle after their deaths。 This is where she uncovers the secrets of her Uncle Archibald Craven's home, including a garden and a boy。CharactersMary's character arc was my favorite part of the book, al This was a cute tale about the growth of two children and a garden。 When we first meet Mary and then Colin, they are both emotionally neglected by the adults around them, and so they are spoiled and unloving。 Mary initially lives in India with her parents, but she is sent to England to live with her Uncle after their deaths。 This is where she uncovers the secrets of her Uncle Archibald Craven's home, including a garden and a boy。CharactersMary's character arc was my favorite part of the book, although it is not the focus。 As an example of how resilient children can be, she is able to push past her neglect and trauma which caused her to be a brat, essentially, and develop into a kinder, more thoughtful version of herself。Then there's Colin, who was one of the secrets kept in the manor。 He is Mary's cousin, and very much like Mary。 He too is the victim of neglectful and unloving adults, who are all convinced (view spoiler)[(or trying to keep him convinced) (hide spoiler)] that he is sick and will die any day。 Because of all this, he is a gloomy brat。 However, his arc is not as satisfying to me as Mary's was。 While he went through a greater transformation than Mary, he seemed to simply shift from the delusion that he was going to die to a different imaginative state。Magic and ImaginationThe plot of the novel, which is of course mostly about the garden and the growth of the people associated with it, is a kind of fairytale。 Mary herself describes many aspects of the book setting and plot as a fairytale and there is a lot of discussion about magic。 Sometimes though, it felt more like Bridge to Terabithia, which is a book about two children who go into the forest and use their imagination to grow and play。 I think I would have liked the plot more, if it weren't for the author seeming to lay it on thick that no, really it was magic and nature and other mystical properties which grew and healed the children。 Out of curiosity, I looked up the "themes" on Sparknotes and it turns out that the author was a big fan of the Christian Science movement at that time and so all of this makes sense。 However, I'm still going to interpret it all as more of a Bridge to Teribithia fairytale as it's more interesting that way。I did appreciate the nature-loving aspect of it though。 Many times, I have found calm and stability in forests, parks, and creeks。 Studies are continuing to show how beneficial safe experiences in nature are to human mental health and well-being。 It's great to encourage people to be outside more! We should just be careful not to overestimate these benefits。Final note: There are anti-Indian and anti-dark-skin themes in the book which are especially prevalent in a couple of scenes。 So, if you want to read this just be aware that it exists。 。。。more

Read this back when I was a kid, found it fun。 Read it again as an adult, it helped with my depression。

I will forever love this book because I first read it when I was 8。 It is so nostalgic and makes me feel so happy when I read it。 It is probably the most read book I own, and my edition was originally my mother’s so that gets extra points。 Also, if you liked this book you should read eight cousins by Louisa May Alcott。

4 starsI've seen various people describe this book as "magical" and after reading it, I agree。 In both the sense that the beauty and hope is wondrous, the descriptions are stunning and that the book talks about literal magic, or what children believe can be magic。I loved the development of Mary - especially considering I was uncomfortable with her character at the beginning of the book, especially during her time in India, so I was pleasantly surprised that this became a highlight for me。 An 4 starsI've seen various people describe this book as "magical" and after reading it, I agree。 In both the sense that the beauty and hope is wondrous, the descriptions are stunning and that the book talks about literal magic, or what children believe can be magic。I loved the development of Mary - especially considering I was uncomfortable with her character at the beginning of the book, especially during her time in India, so I was pleasantly surprised that this became a highlight for me。 And I particularly loved the relationship between Mary, Dickon and Colin, which I'm sure is most people's favourite part。The reason it isn't a 5 star is because there were moments I felt the development had taken a step back。 I also got a little lost towards the end when a number of new POVs were introduced after spending so long with Mary's voice。 I also felt like Colin's storyline overtook Mary's which did work, (view spoiler)[except there wasn't much of a conclusion for Mary in the final chapter - only Colin and Mr Craven - and I found myself wondering, "what about Mary?" (hide spoiler)] But I'm glad I have finally read this book and can be one of the many who can say, "it's such a magical book。" It's a glorious children's book that has the ability to make anyone of any age or gender smile and reflect on how beautiful the natural world is。 。。。more

Bought this again as it’s one I haven’t read since I was a little girl, and it’s just as lovely a story as it was back then。 Mary’s character development is so lovely and the happy ending is incredibly comforting。 Always will be one I go back to again and again。

This was a decent story。 I read it when I was a child myself and incredibly in love with all the descriptions of nature in this book。 I still liked them, and it was nice to revisit the story。 I liked seeing the characters develop from spoiled children to who they became by the end of the book。 I liked that they still had some of the qualities and personality of their former self after that transformation。 Often the transition from spoiled to kind results in an abrupt uphauling of character but t This was a decent story。 I read it when I was a child myself and incredibly in love with all the descriptions of nature in this book。 I still liked them, and it was nice to revisit the story。 I liked seeing the characters develop from spoiled children to who they became by the end of the book。 I liked that they still had some of the qualities and personality of their former self after that transformation。 Often the transition from spoiled to kind results in an abrupt uphauling of character but that wasn’t the case here。 I really liked the friendship between the two main characters too。 However, the ableism in this disability narrative troubled me a lot。 I also wasn’t the biggest fan of some elements to their ‘happily ever after,’ especially when it comes to the father/son relationship and the ableist messages it sends… And the unaddressed racism。 。。。more

This is a very whimsical, magical and flowery story。 However, the protagonist are some of the most irritating bratty children protagonist, who never changes their behaviour (except Dickon, Dickon is nice)。6/10 - Mary and Colin are so spoiled and an inconvenience to all the adults just trying to do their job around the manor。 - Bonus points for Dickon being an animal whisperer。
